Spiritual Sunday

I'm joining in again at  Spiritual Sunday with Charlotte and Ginger. when am I going to remember that it starts on Thursday my time!

Today I want to mention my Bible Study which is such a blessing to me.  This term it is Isaiah Chapters 1-39, headed The God who judges and saves.  It is with CWCI and known as Know Your Bible.  It is available in a number of countries, and may be familiar to some readers.

The book of Isaiah has many well known quotations, even if we can't remember from whence they came.  Here are a few:

Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Isaiah, 1. 18

And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. Isaiah, 6. 1

Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Isaiah, 7. 14

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah, 9. 6

The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.Isaiah, 11. 6

Let us eat and drink; for to morrow we shall die. Isaiah, 22. 13

There are so many more but my all time favourite:

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew [their] strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; [and] they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

Our mornings together are special too because of the wonderful group of women that participate and it is fellowship time as well.  We start at 10am with a cuppa and chat and then turn to the study by 10.30am.

We do have to read the questions carefully, it is easy to jump in too quickly... for example:  What time span do Isaiah's prophecies cover? The quick answer is 'about 40 years' as some answered..... but when we think about it a little longer, we realise  that the question is deeper than that - some of the prophecies were for his generation, others through the ages especially in Jesus' time, and others yet to be fulfilled.  After we have all shared in the study, taking turns to answer the questions and joining in the discussions, around 11.30 we have a time of prayer together.

A STRENGTH THAT NEVER FAILS BJ Hoff

Lord, You are my hope, my consolation...
In the gentle warmth of Your love,
there is strength that never fails,
a fortress and a hiding place
where I need never hear.

Isaiah 40: 29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

I've been singing some of the scripture songs from early in my Christian walk, but most aren't on youtube.  Still I am very grateful to find some that I know.

With love and blessings for joy and peace.
Hugs
Jan

Jan, I love the book of Isaiah and the verses you quoted today! It is astounding how accurately the Old Testament prophets described the birth and death of Jesus and out present day headlines. I also have looked in vain for many of my old favorite songs. I miss the church hymns, too. God bless you.

Thank you Jan for another beautiful, meaningful post. Love those passages from Isaiah and how the prophecies were for his time and future fulfillment, seeing as God is not bound to 'time' at all! What a blessing to study together! Thanks for the song too! Love hymns and we still sing them at the nursing home.

Thank you. There is just nothing like a group of women joined at the heart. I hope to find a Bible study that is a good fit.
