HelloFriends,
It is Blue Monday again, and today I am going to mention something I have not talked about on here.
I have a harp, it was my retirement gift to myself. I was listening to the radio early one morning ... like 5.30am .... and a woman of about my age called in and asked for advice about starting to play the harp and got a positive response. Well I jumped up and went online and found a place that makes harps only about 80kms from us.
I should tell you now that my playing-a- musical-instrument experience was a few months on the piano at about eight years of age, and when I said I didn't like going I was allowed to leave.... how I regret that!
I have had the harp some years now, and am embarrassed to say that I have not put the time in to become proficient, and I had a problem with my glasses.... I see 3 strings instead of one..... the harp just isn't far enough away.... and in our rural community there aren't any harp teachers. Never mind.... I've got it out again, found the spare music stand, pulled out the "Teach yourself to play the harp" books.... and I'm going to have a serious attempt. There are some jokes that owning a harp is 95% tuning up and 5% playing, but Barry checked it, and it is still in tune from my last attempt. Please note the 'blue' background..... (smile).
And you can see Smiling Sally for lots more "Blue Monday" posts...... some people have a great imagination when it comes to finding blue items to photograph.
Happy Blue Monday,
Hugs - Jan

I LOVE to hear a harp! You are going to have so much enjoyment playing it! I too, quit lessons at age 8, but still love to play hymns and play "by ear". Blessings to you.
How wonderful! Please don't give up. Perhaps online there are teachers. I know there are guitar lessons and piano lessons.
wow. it is lovely to look at regardless but I am sure it sounds lovely too. good luck with your lessons!
That is wonderful Jan, it sounds like me, I have a Dulcimer I just had to have, it sits in the case, no one here knows how to play it, the friend I had that knew moved about 6 hours away, so like you it sits, but maybe we ought to bring them out and just play, like singing unto the lord, playing unto the lord, amen, hugs my friend, have a blessed day.
Go for it, Jan! Prove to the world that we can learn at any age and/or stage of life.
Happy Blue Monday!
Proud of you for going for it! That's a beautiful harp and I'm sure you will soon be making beautiful music together. Had a friend do that and she now plays background music for special events!
what a beautiful harp. So glad that you took the challenge
Well,it's absolutely beautiful and it
would indeed be a shame if you don't
at least give it a good try. I think
you can do it, Jan! Keep us posted on
your progress, please.
Blessings,
Sandy
I love the sound of a harp and I love to see someone playing on it. Happy Monday!

Oh, Jan! I think this is just wonderful!
My neighbor in St. Augustine is a harpist who teaches lessons (I can see her house out of my back window). I love to hear her play and have bought some of her CDs of Christmas music and local favorites. I'm so proud of you for doing this because it is truly one of my favorite musical instruments, and everyone has to start somewhere. Stay the course. I can't wait for you to report to us that you are playing. But even if it just sits there, it is a marvelous instrument and beautiful not only to hear, but to enjoy visually.
Happy Blue Monday...
XO,
Sheila :-)
It's great that you have such a wonderful instrument Jan. I recall you talking about it before. The harp has such a lovely sound.
Its never to late to start something new. I know lots of people who started running etc at 50 or so. You can do anything you put your mind to. Contgrats and great pic.
The smooth an soothing tones of a harp always make me think of the music of angels. I think you may surprise yourself if you start begin playing again...making music because one has to for lessons and creating melodies because one wants to for enjoyment are two entirely different things...play on, sister Jan!
Thank you so much everyone for all your thoughtful and encouraging comments, I mentioned it so that I would feel more accountable to play every day. I will be back to you soon.
Blessings - Jan
Oh Jan, I do love your musical philosophy. I had the same piano experience and have regretted giving up on it forever. I do not have a harp but it is a beautiful instrument. Do give it a try seriously. I believe you will do very well if you want to. Smile.
Thank you for your visit. I am sorry I lost touch with you.
Hugs, Jeanne
How lovely, a harp!Goodluck with your playing. A little practice every day is better than a lot of practice once a week <3
