The Flood

Carpark Toowoomba after 'inland tsunami'

TODAY our thoughts and prayers are with the people of South East QLD as they suffer the shocking floods. It was continuous news coverage today as the tragedy unfolded.

In QLD, an area larger than France and Germany combined is already flooded, and several lives lost, but we woke to the horrendous news today of an 8 metre wall of water that raced through the main street of Toowoomba, which is actually up a steep escarpment, then down into the valley below and washed away homes with families in them without any notice. Ten are confirmed dead and 78 still missing, with numbers expected to rise.

The dam that feeds into the Brisbane River is at 200% (built to protect the city in floods) and it is still raining and the water has to be released (they've been releasing it for 2 weeks) and with the king tide tomorrow, the highest ever flood is expected.
Areas on the Northern Rivers of NSW, my area,  are flooding also, and all roads out of our town, except one, are closed to cars. However the big trucks, B Doubles and semi-trailers have been passing by on the main road, one after the other, about  50 yards from here. We don't usually see them, so it must be the only road they can get through.

We are safe ourselves, and we sit quietly at home, following the news on TV.

One of the bugbears of floodtime is all the stupid onlookers that clog the roads, get in the way of rescuers, or get into trouble themselves and have to be rescued.

Here is a video at Toowoomba. Wait a few moments for it to start.  It shows the rush of water and cars being washed away,  after the first impact was over.

With love and blessings,
Jan

I've been following this flood on the television and through internet news. It just keeps getting worse and it was days ago they described it as a flood of biblical proportions. The area under devastation is the entire area covered by my first trip to Australia so many years ago so I can recollect exactly how large an area this is. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Please stay safe. Love and prayers.

Yes I saw a vid of the flood where the river was flooding and all the cars going into the river, saw one man let the air out of his tyres and then drive the car off by the skin of his teeth, just before the cars at the side were sweeped away.
