I'm Home

We are thankful to be safe home, and are just getting settled.  I'm looking forward to posting again.  It rained most of the time we were away, we were even in the path of a mini tornado, but not hurt.

Here is a link to the news item about the mini tornado in the local paper. Some people were taken to hospital, but no serious injuries.

When we went into the grounds for the Music Festival at Texas QLD, some were already bogged, and it kept on raining, the town was cut off in all directions for a couple of days.  We did enjoy some good times with people we met, and some 'happy hours' (though we take along a thermos of green tea) with Barry and a couple of others taking turns to sing, with people we have known for a few years.

When we got to Millmerran some camping areas of the showground were unusable because of the continued rain, and people were being sent here and there  around town, to another sporting complex etc.  However we were allowed in  and were very happy with the spot allocated to us.  We had lovely neighbours behind us, and the sandy soil where we were dried out very quickly.

However I did get stressed, we looked out on dry ground around us in the morning, and then by 8.30 or so, it was a big bog again  because of people across from us showering in their caravan and letting the water out on the ground, and many caravanners were doing this, though the one across from us was excessive and the grey water was coming over and onto our, and our neighbours 'space'.  Our neighbour mentioned it to the people running the show, but it was ignored.  We had not come across this on such a large scale before, in fact our motorhome group promotes 'leave no trace' and we have joined, and I understood that the caravanning fraternity were promoting it also.  Anyway it made us rethink where we will go in future.

We enjoyed seeing all the attractions, and they had a big crowd, despite the inclement weather.

I also took the opportunity to start playing the ukelele and will be playing at nursing homes in future, starting this Friday, in about eight numbers.

We had planned on taking a couple of days to get home, but when we packed up, Barry decided to drive straight through.

The QLD border, blink and you will miss the borders in Australia

Poets and country music

Apron competition

Camp oven cooking competition
There were a number of other displays, a pavilion with stalls and demonstrations, heritage shows, billy boiling competitions, damper throwing, fire fighting etc.

It is still raining, and a number of roads in the locality are cut, as I write this.

With love and blessings,
Jan

Welcome home, Jan. It sounds like you had quite the adventure and are glad to be home. I'm so glad you made it safely back and that while you were away the angels were looking after you. Blessings. xx

You've got quite a tale to tell! Glad you are home safe and sound. You obviously had a good and memorable time.

It really was not considerate of the other to allow their grey water to make other people's lives miserable. There's always such a risk with bacteria spreading around.

Have a great week though and enjoy your spring!

Welcome home. Sorry to hear about the rain spoiling your trip although like true Aussies I see you still got on with having a good time. It must have been scary having a mini tornado ripping through the park.

Oh, that looks like so much fun. Here in Florida we have a big deal like that on the Suwannee River called the Folkfest with lots of bluegrass & folk music. I'm not sure if there are any ukelele's.

Actually...your vacation/trip brings back simular memories. Sometimes we have to make the most out of a "less than wonderful" situation.

I have added myself to follow your blog. You are more than welcome to visit mine and become a follower also if you care to.
