When we were with our friends during the week, I was inspired by Janice's enthusiasm for her garden and it has given me fresh hope that we grow more of our own vegetables.
She is a member of "The Diggers Club" which provides an enormous amount of information to help gardeners along the way. They say that ground the size of a car for each family member is sufficient to provide fresh vegetables for the whole year, and have seed packs available twice a year to do it their way, if one chooses to go that way. The subscription includes six issues of their journal per year, and they have 1500 items in their catalogue altogether. I am very keen to get their Australian garlic when it is available, as it is difficult to obtain.
They have been closed over Christmas - New Year and their new season starts online tomorrow, or I can see it in a magazine with seed offers coming out mid-January.... I'm excited!!
It was also exciting yesterday to see my first raspberries.... it is not common to grow berries in our warm area, and I am surprised the plant is not in worse condition. I also got had a handful of gooseberries. Unfortunately the rain is pelting down again today.
With Love and Blessings,
Jan
