Was reminiscing with a friend yesterday about the days we had to cross the Clarence River by ferry before this bridge was built.
And here is a pic as we prepared to go through the open bridge, years ago now.

Have a great week!

Nice photos!
Do you prefer driving over the bridge? Or do you miss the ferry ride?
Yes I would have to say the bridge is better, though if one was a tourist, the ferry may have been a novelty. The bridge was completed in August 1966 and is a total length of 888m per Wikepedia.
Great photos Jan ... where we live on Vancouver Island we are very dependent on travel by ferry. Our ferries link the Island to the mainland of our beautiful province.
In the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia I well remember the three-lane, 2,100 foot/650 metre-long floating bridge connecting the Westside area to Kelowna, BC on the lake's eastern side. The opening of the floating bridge by premier W.A.C. Bennet and Princess Margaret was in 1958.
I understand that this floating bridge (that I used to travel quite regularly) has been replaced as it outlived its usefulness and is incapable of supporting the current traffic levels. The construction of the new replacement bridge—the William R. Bennett Bridge—began in 2005 and was completed in 2008. The new bridge opened on May 25, 2008, and the old bridge closed May 31, 2008.
I find that just a little sad but not a surprise. Traffic levels have increased substantially everywhere.
Must one day make a trip to check it out!
Thanks for the lovely pictures Jan.
Love,
Sharon
Just a bit before my time, but I think I went over it as a baby.
