My Little Corner

It's Friday night and its been a busy week. I do hope to get around friends' posts soon!  Today was quite warm at 29C, and muggy after a heavy shower of rain last night.

We sang four times this week, and fitted in tennis and exercise as well. We had friends call in and also visited neighbours who had been to see Celtic Woman in Brisbane, as they wanted to show us a DVD.

It was poignant on Thursday as our exercise teacher shared that her Mum was having a biopsy for breast cancer right then.  We hugged and cried together in the kitchen afterwards and our leader Val lead some prayers.  Then Val and I went over to the church meeting house to sort out some things for the Know Your Bible Group end of term and remembered to have a minutes silence for Rembrance Day at 11am, and shared a prayer time.

ANZAC Day in April is the big Remembrance Day in Australia, that everyone gets involved in, and Remembrance Day is fairly low key, with mainly official ceremonies.

I am going to a Ladies Conference with Val tomorrow, and I am looking forward to a it.  There will be four sessions and morning and afternoon tea and lunch. The sessions include "Sharing  My life with Women at the Well", "Knowing God and Loving Others ", "Being Free to be Yourself" etc.
Here is the website.
The will have a bookshop available also..... I usually have to order online, so it will be nice to see the items and I will get a few gifts.

I have also been working on Christmas gifts when I have been sitting around at home. I have bought a set each of bath sheet, hand towel and washer (flannel? facecloth?) in different colours for my main family gifts, and I am doing a knitted heritage edge on them.  Here is a pic of the first edge I did a few years ago.  I am happy to share the pattern if anyone wants it.  This pattern is popular here particualrly on hand towells for sale that members donate to trading tables to raise money for their small groups etc.

News this week is that my youngest grandaughter has completed her certificate in travel at the information centre in her country town, in conjunction with her Higher School Certiificate, and has obtained a position at an Information Centre in a Sydney suburb, starting December 6, so she is well on her way.

Grand and my daughter at the Ceremony.

Here is a simple restful version of I come to the Garden Alone  from youtube.  This is one of the gospel numbers we did this morning, I find it restful and touching.

With love and blessings.

Hello my dear Jan. What a lovely post as always and indeed you have had and will be continuing to have a busy life. 29 C, my oh my, that is getting there. I think if you take off the 2 that would of been our high today .... 9 C.

Did you enjoy the DVD of the Celtic Woman in Brisbane?

Thursday does indeed sound like it was an emotional day and my prayers go out to your exercise teacher's mother. Have you heard any update on her?

My brother and I did not get out for any of the Remembrance Day services here in Vancouver but we did watch them on City TV and they always bring tears to my eyes. Brings back memories of my dear father who was a Sergeant Major in the Canadian Army serving in WW11. Although he passed away several years ago there is really not a day I do not think of him.

This year they lit the Olympic Cauldron on Remembrance Day which was lovely and I learned that the song played on the bagpipes is an 18th Century Scottish Lament called Flowers of the Forest.

The rain held off for the ceremonies which was wonderful.

The Ladies Conference sounds very nice. I can not help but wish I was Val and you and I were attending it together. Speaking of friendships I did not meet up with Penny the other day as planned which is a pity. My brother woke up and wanted to go out for awhile so I had to make a choice and his well being is front and centre at the moment so I did not want to disappoint him. Hopefully Penny and I will get together one day. She leaves for Kenya on Sunday and I hoped that I could see her off at the airport but when I discovered she was not leaving until 10:30 pm that sadly was completely out of the picture as well. I would NEVER find my way back to the apartment that late at night, lol.

The edging you are doing on the towels is beautiful Jan and the gifts will be very special. If I was a better knitter than I am I would ask for the pattern but I think I should just stick with crochet.

Congratulations and best of luck to your youngest grandaughter. What an accomplishment for her to have completed her certificate and congratulations also to her with regards to the job ath the Information Centre. You must be so very proud of her and yes indeed she is well on her way.

Have a wonderful weekend Jan; it certainly sounds like you will and we shall catch up in chat as we can.

Love,
Sharon

Hi Jan,
Hope you enjoy the conference and come
back refreshed and ready to share a
thing or two that you may have learned.
Congratulations to your lovely granddaughter!
This song is so wonderful. My sweet husband
goes around singing this probably more than
any other song! It's a favorite around here.
Hope you have a blessed week in Him.

Enjoying the music on you tube. Haven't heard that song in a long time. I love your crocheted edging! I don't crochet but I knit. I'm furiously working on a sweater for my little granddaughter. It's half done. I realized yesterday that I had not knitted on it all this week. I need to keep up on it or Christmas will be here b4 we know it. Congrats to your granddaughter and her achievements. That's great! Take care and have a great day!

Hello Jan~ I love the crochet edging. Our family will be spending their days at a Christmas tree farm soon. Maybe I should start a small project? I'm not very good or persistent. You sing? Do you have a CD?

I do love that song. I haven't heard it in a long time.
